How to measure any envelope
Open End or Open Side



How all envelopes are measured: Regardless of the envelope type or style, state the shortest dimension first and longest dimension second.
1.) Position the the seal flap or the opening at the top of the piece.
2.) Measure the shortest dimension first.
3.) Measure the longest dimension second.
4.) Measure the seal flap length - from the top score to the end of the flap.
OPEN SIDE ENVELOPES HAVE THE SEAL FLAP ON THE LONG DIMENSION
Open side envelopes have the seal flap (opening) on the longer dimension and can have diagonal side seams or straight side seams.
Open side envelope styles: Announcement, Bankers Flap, Baronial, Booklet, Commercial, Monarch, Official, Square, Remit, Wallet.
No.10 open side /commercial style have
diagonal side seams
measure height 4 1/8 x width 9 1/2
No.10 open side / booklet style have
straight (double) side seams

measure 4 1/8 x 9 1/2


OPEN END ENVELOPES HAVE THE SEAL FLAP ON THE SHORT DIMENSION
OPEN END envelopes have seal flaps (opening) on the shorter dimension the most common styles are shown below.

one center
seam and bottom seam

Style 2
No.10 open end / single side seam have
one side seam and a bottom seam
measure 4 1/8 x 9 1/2
Style 3
No.10 open end / booklet style have
double side seams with a full back flap
measure 4 1/8 x 9 1/2
